Climate change, eutrophication and deoxygenation : global problems of lake worldwide
Oxygen conditions in lakes of temperate regions are decreasing faster than in oceans and climate change seems to be the main driver of this decline. The drop of dissolved oxygen in lakes has potential impacts on ecosystem services, such as the regulation of biogeochemical cycles, by increasing the release of nutrients into water and greenhouse gases such as methane towards the atmosphere.
