Résumé
I will present an ostracod study from IODP Site U1390 in the central middle slope of the Gulf of Cadiz to reconstruct past changes in Mediterranean Outflow Water (MOW) over the past 24 kyrs. Site U1390 is located at 992 m water depth on the sheeted drifts of a contourite depositional system and offers particularly high sedimentation rates that allows for high resolution paleoceanographic studies. Therefore, the site is ideal for reconstructing MOW variability across this transition. In the study, we combine the records of the ostracod assemblages and environmental indicator species with sediment grain-size, benthic foraminifer d18O and d13C data, and XRF data to evaluate MOW dynamics and bottom water ventilation.
