Equilibrator System

equilibrator
Equilibrator installed in the RV Côte de la Manche
The equilibrator we use at EPOC is similar to the one of Frankignoulle et al. (2001): a vertical plexiglas tube filled with marbles through which water is flowing while equilibrating with a closed air circuit. We connect the air circuit either to a LiCOR 7000 IR gas analyser for CO2 or, at some of our study sites, to an INNOVA IR-Photoacoustic gas analyser to measure CH4 at the same time. An exemple of row data obtained with this system is shown below. See also a technical note we wrote on the use of this equilibrator in a stratified tropical reservoir

Loire River Nov. 2005
Diel changes in water and air pCO2 recorded in the Loire River, Nov. 2005 (Abril and Maro, unpublished). At that time, the river was a source of atmospheric CO2.
